A type of handloom. Also called jindaibata or shimobata. In Japan, it is believed to have emerged around the 5th century, when improvements were made to primitive looms from the Yayoi period, such as adding a loom stand, using weaving techniques introduced from China. The weaver sits down, pulls the foot rope to open the single heddle tied to the loom frame, and inserts the weft thread with a shuttle. It is rarely used today, but remains in the production of traditional textiles such as Yuki tsumugi and Ojiya chijimi. → Related items Echigo Jofu|Takahata Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
