A method of mechanical polishing. Also known as buffing. Abrasive powder solidified with fatty acids, hardened oils, mineral oils, etc. is applied to a rotating cloth disk, and the item is pressed against it to polish it. The purpose is to give a glossy finish. Commonly used abrasives include aobou (chromium oxide), shirakaba (calcined alumina), machiless (calcined dolomite), and akabou (iron oxide).
