Born: April 17, 1911, Angers [Died] February 17, 1996. Angers French author. His real name was Jean-Pierre Hervé-Bazin. His great-uncle was R. Bazin. He was raised by his grandmother and had a rebellious childhood. He studied at a Catholic university in Angers but dropped out, went to Paris and became involved in journalism. In 1948, he was recognized for his first autobiographical novel, Vipère au poing (Catch the Viper), and thereafter, with his fierce writing style, he ruthlessly attacked the home, the church, and motherhood, carving out his own unique realm. His major works include The Head Against the Wall (1949), The Death of the Foal (50), Stand and Walk (52), Qui j'ose aimer (56), In the Name of the Son (60), The Matrimoine (67) and The Green Church (81).
