A Chinese poet from the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. His pen name was Xuangong. His great-grandfather was the writer Gui Youguang. When the Qing dynasty's government troops began to take control of Jiangnan in 1645, Gui Zhuang rose up in resistance in his hometown of Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, together with his close friend Gu Yanwu and others. The tragic situation after the fall of the city is directly reflected in his poems. In the song "Manko no Mournful Song," he expresses his resentment towards the civil servants who had surrendered and pandered to him, and his determination to live as a private citizen, but in fact he spent the latter half of his life as a Ming remnant. 中国，明末･清初の詩人。字は玄恭。曾祖父は文章家の帰有光。1645年清朝政府軍の江南支配が始まると，帰荘も親友顧炎武らとともに郷里江蘇省崑山で抵抗の闘いに立ちあがった。陥落後の悲惨な情況はその詩編にも直写されている。また歌詞の形をとった《万古愁曲》では，投降し迎合した文官に対する恨みと一民間人として生きる決意を述べるが，事実その後半生はいわゆる明の遺民として徹した。【松村昂】
