Kariba Dam

Japanese: カリバ･ダム（英語表記）Kariba Dam

The large dam was completed in June 1959 in the gorge of the middle reaches of the Zambezi River, which forms the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe in southern Africa. It is an arch dam with a height of 128m. Its generating capacity is about 700,000kW, making it an important energy source for both countries. However, political discord between the two countries has been gradually increasing, and smooth operation has not been maintained. Lake Kariba, which was formed by the dam, is about 280km long and has an area of about 5,200km2. It is one of the largest artificial lakes in the world, along with Lake Nasser, which was created by the Aswan High Dam on the Nile.
