…Poaceae crops generally have many tillers, and therefore have a bush-like plant type. They are generally classified into short-culm, many-culm, and long-culm, few-culm types based on the number of tillers and plant height (the length from the ground to the top of the plant when the plants are held together). They are also generally classified into panicle number type and panicle weight type based on the relationship between the number of panicles formed on a plant and the weight of each panicle (proportional to the number of grains on each panicle), and there have been attempts to quantitatively express the relationship between the two as a plant type index. In crops grown in groups, differences in plant type are closely related to the penetration of sunlight and its utilization, and in this respect, the significance of plant type is important in agricultural production. …
