Amphibolite (Amphibole)

Japanese: 角セン岩(角閃岩) - かくせんがん（英語表記）amphibolite

A crystalline rock composed of amphibole and plagioclase. Generally, it refers to a high-grade metamorphic rock derived from igneous rock with calcium-rich plagioclase and ordinary amphibole as its main components and little quartz. It is widely found in regional metamorphic belts. It often shows gneissic texture. In contact metamorphic zones, there are many amphibole that retain the texture of the original volcanic or igneous rock. Most amphibole belong to the amphibole facies and epidote-amphibole facies metamorphic facies, but it can also occur under a fairly wide range of physical conditions, such as the amphibole facies, granulite facies, and eclogite facies.

角セン石と斜長石から構成される結晶質の岩石。一般的には，Caの多い斜長石と普通角セン石を主成分鉱物とし石英をほとんど含まない火成岩に由来する高度変成岩をいう。広域変成帯に広く出現する。片麻状組織を示す場合が多い。接触変成帯には元来の火山岩や火成岩の組織を残したままの角セン岩も多い。角セン岩は多くは角セン岩相と緑レン石‐角セン岩相の変成相に属する変成岩であるが，ランセン片岩相，グラニュライト相，エクロジャイト相などの相当広い物理的条件でも生成される。
