Pulmonary infarction. Pulmonary embolism occurs when blood clots, tumor cells, air, fat, etc. formed in venous blood flow to the lungs and get caught in the pulmonary artery, and pulmonary infarction occurs when hemorrhagic necrosis occurs in the area distributed by the pulmonary artery. Pulmonary infarction occurs in 50-60% of cases of pulmonary embolism, and in cases with heart failure, the incidence rate is as high as about 90%. Symptoms vary depending on the size of the blocked blood vessel and range from no symptoms to chest pain, bloody sputum, fever, dyspnea, and even shock.

肺でみられる梗塞。静脈血にできた血栓，腫瘍細胞，空気，脂肪などが肺に流れてきて，肺動脈にひっかかった場合が肺塞栓pulmonary embolismであり，その結果，その肺動脈分布領域に出血性壊死を起こした場合が肺梗塞である。肺梗塞は肺塞栓例の50～60％に起こり，心不全がある場合には約90％と高率に発生する。症状は閉塞血管の大きさにより異なり，無症状から，胸痛，血痰，発熱，呼吸困難，さらにはショックまで種々の程度にわたる。
