A province in southern China. Its capital is Guangzhou. The Nanling River runs along the northern border of the province, and the Pearl River, where the Xijiang, Dongjiang, and Beijiang join, forms a delta. The climate is tropical, with heavy rainfall and strong seasonal winds. Rice is cultivated twice a year, and the province is the largest producer of rice in China. Silkworm farming is also popular, and other fruits produced in the province include sweet potatoes, sugarcane, mandarin oranges, bananas, and pineapples. Minerals include coal, antimony, tin, bismuth, tungsten, and iron. Industries such as steel, cement, weapons, and shipbuilding are centered in Guangzhou. The main arteries of transportation are the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway (Beijing-Guangzhou), which runs north to south, the Guangzhou-Kowloon Railway (Guangzhou-Kowloon) that extends to the Kowloon Peninsula, and the Beijing-Kowloon Railway (Beijing-Kowloon), and the Pearl River waterway, with Hong Kong and Macau at the mouth of the Pearl River.
