Japanese: 配合飼料 - はいごうしりょう（英語表記）mixed forage

Feed is a scientifically formulated mixture of various nutrients that allows livestock to remain healthy and reproduce on its own. The ingredients are divided into main ingredients (corn, barley, wheat, etc.) that are used as sources of energy, protein, and minerals, and minor ingredients that provide vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Formula feed in Japan began in the Taisho era (1912-1926) as chicken feed, and is said to be ideal feed because it is easy to store, transport, and use.

科学的に各種の栄養素を混合し，家畜がそれだけで健康が保て，繁殖できるようにした飼料。原料は，熱量源，蛋白質源，鉱物質源として使われる主原料 (とうもろこし，大麦，小麦など) と，ビタミン，ミネラル，アミノ酸の補給源などの微量原料に分けられる。日本での配合飼料は養鶏飼料として大正年間 (1912～26) に始ったが，保存，運搬に便利で，使いやすい理想的な飼料といわれる。
