Among early Japanese scholars, the name of EGSpal'vin, Dmitrii Matveevich Pozdneev (1865-1942), who devoted himself to Japanese language education for many years, cannot be overlooked. On the other hand, the linguist Evgenii Dmitrievich Polivanov (1891-1938) was known worldwide for his theory of the genealogy of the Japanese language and his research on dialects. …
