...His major work, Micrographia (1665), which praised the expansion of the senses through the use of microscopes, contains many microscopic structures of plants and animals. Among them, the diagram of cork, which is the first to use the word "cell," is famous. In addition, he pointed out the periodicity of the color spectrum between thin films of mica and other materials, understood fossils as the remains of past organisms, and explained the crystal structure of alum and rock salt, among other interesting points in the history of science. He also made achievements in almost every field of natural science, including experiments on respiration and combustion, the first record of a double star (1665), and the publication of Hooke's law on the stress and strain of a spring (elastic body) (1678).
