Toi [town] - Toi
An old town in the northwest of the Izu Peninsula, Tagata County, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is known as a tourist destination and a swimming beach, with a warm climate and shallow coastline. Toi Onsen is a gypsum spring that emerged during mining at the Toi Gold Mine in the early Edo period, with a temperature of 57°C. It is a producer of carnations and loquats. Wasabi and shiitake mushrooms are also cultivated. In April 2004, it merged with Shuzenji Town, Amagi Yugashima Town, and Nakaizu Town in Tagata County to form Izu City. 49.41 km2 . 5,248 people (2003).
