An old town on the north shore of the Ariake Sea in Saga County, Saga Prefecture. It occupies fertile reclaimed land that has been in operation since the Middle Ages on the right bank of the Chikugo River estuary. It produces a lot of rice and is also a thriving seaweed farm. It also processes seafood such as sea mushroom lees pickles and crab pickles. In October 2007, it was incorporated into Saga City along with Higashiyoga Town and Kubota Town in Saga County. 46.49 km2 . Population 18,250 (2005).
