Adultery

A consensual sexual relationship between a married person and a person of the opposite sex who is not his/her spouse. Article 183 of the Penal Code punished the wife and the other man (with imprisonment of up to two years) in the case of adultery by a wife upon a complaint from the husband, but this was repealed in 1947 because it went against the principle of gender equality in the new constitution and therefore did not allow punishment for either party.
