A town in Haga County in southeastern Tochigi Prefecture. It is at the western foot of the Yamizo Mountains and borders the eastern side of Moka City. The main settlement was the castle town of the medieval Mashiko clan, and the Moka Railway runs through it. Rice, tobacco, and greenhouse gardening are practiced, and Mashiko pottery is a specialty of the town. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 89.40 km2 . 栃木県南東部,芳賀(はが)郡の町。八溝(やみぞ)山地の西麓にあり真岡(もおか)市の東に接する。主集落は中世益子氏の城下町で,真岡鉄道が通じる。米作,葉タバコの栽培,施設園芸を行い,益子焼を特産。東日本大震災で,町内において被害が発生。89.40km2。2万4348人(2010)。
