Japanese: 玉繭 - たままゆ（英語表記）double cocoon

Also called "doubling cocoons." A single cocoon produced by two or more mature silkworms. The silk spun by the two mature silkworms overlaps irregularly, making reeling difficult and so it is considered a selection cocoon. The percentage produced varies depending on the variety and type of mabushi, but it also occurs when too many mature silkworms are placed in one mabushi when they are raised in the mabushi, or when overripe silkworms are raised in the mabushi. It also generally occurs when the conditions are hot and humid when they are raised in the mabushi. The raw silk spun from a dupioni cocoon is called dupioni, and although the thread has knots, it is strong enough to be woven into meisen and floss, and is used as the raw material for woven fabric.

同功繭ともいう。2頭またはそれ以上の熟蚕がつくる1個の繭。2頭の熟蚕の吐糸が不規則に重なり合っているので，繰糸が困難であり，選除繭とされている。できる割合は品種，蔟 (まぶし) の種類によって違うが，上蔟 (じょうぞく) の際熟蚕を1つの蔟に多く入れすぎたり，過熟蚕を上蔟する場合にも多くなる。また一般に上蔟の際に高温多湿であるときも多くなる。玉繭から繰糸した生糸を玉糸といい，糸に節があるが，織布はじょうぶで銘仙，真綿などの原料となる。
