A representative Japanese hotel located in Uchisaiwai-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. It opened on November 3, 1890. It was established in 1887 as Tokyo Hotel Limited Liability Company, and became Imperial Hotel Co., Ltd. in 1907. It was a three-story Neo-Renaissance-style brick building with a wooden copper roof, but was destroyed by fire in 1922. Construction of a new building (Lloyd Building) designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright began in 1920, and was completed in 1923. The Lloyd Building had a great influence on Japanese architects, with its decorations using Oya stone and its interior design, especially the lobby, maintaining an organic unity (→Organic Architecture). However, due to its obvious deterioration, it was demolished in 1967. A new 17-story main building was built in 1970. The main entrance and lobby of the Lloyd Building have been relocated to Meiji-mura, Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture. The Imperial Hotel Osaka opened in 1996. In 1958, there was a restaurant that introduced buffet cuisine to Japan for the first time.

東京都千代田区内幸町にある日本の代表的ホテル。1890年11月3日開業。1887年有限会社東京ホテルとして設立，1907年株式会社帝国ホテルとなる。ネオ・ルネサンス式煉瓦造の 3階建てで，屋根は木造銅板ぶきであったが 1922年火災により焼失。1920年からアメリカ合衆国の建築家フランク・ロイド・ライトの設計による新館（ロイド館）の工事開始，1923年落成した。ロイド館は，大谷石を用いた装飾や，ロビーを中心とする内部の意匠は有機的統一を保ち，日本の建築家に大きな影響を与えた（→有機的建築）が，老朽化が目立ったため 1967年解体。1970年に地上 17階の新本館が建設された。ロイド館の正面玄関とロビー部分は，愛知県犬山市の明治村に移築されている。1996年帝国ホテル大阪開業。1958年に日本に初めてバイキング料理を紹介したレストランがある。
