They are widely distributed in the temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere, and their seeds are edible even without removing the astringency, so in addition to Japanese chestnuts, the following three species are cultivated: (1) Chinese chestnut C. mollissima Blume. (English name: Chinese chestnut) is native to China, where it is called "bankuri" and is distributed from North China to Yunnan. Roasted chestnuts sold commercially under the name "Tianjin sweet chestnuts" or "sweet chestnuts" were so named because they were produced in the area around the Great Wall in North China, collected in Tianjin, and exported from there.
