Home medicines - kateijobyaku

It is a home remedy that is convenient to have on hand, and is used without consulting a doctor. The history of home remedy is thought to have existed before the birth of doctors, but the role of home remedy has been played mainly by medicine sellers in Toyama. The first aid boxes prepared in each household during World War II have played a major role in the spread of home remedy today.

The types and quantities of medicines to keep on hand are determined by factors such as family structure, age, each person's health condition, and the distance to medical facilities. Having a wide variety of medicines will tend to go to waste, so consult with your family doctor, public health nurse, or pharmacist at the pharmacy to keep them to a minimum, and check them regularly to discard and replace any that have expired or become old, even if there is no visible change in appearance. Common examples include analgesics (antipyretics and analgesics), stomach medicines, intestinal regulators, laxatives, enemas, ointments (for wounds, burns, insect bites, anti-itching, etc.), skin disinfectants (oxydol, mercurochrome or acrinol, disinfectant alcohol), and other non-medicinal items such as absorbent cotton, gauze, bandages, triangular bandages, first-aid bandages with sterilized gauze, thermometers, and hot and cold magic packs. These should be stored together in a first-aid kit or similar. Particular care should be taken with storage and management in households with infants and young children.

In principle, household medications should be used as first aid until a doctor can be seen, and it is necessary to consult a doctor after observing the progress of the condition.
