The name of the area around the lakes Zhonghai and Nanhai in the center of Beijing, the capital of China. It is located to the west of the Palace Museum. It is home to many important institutions and residences of important people in the Chinese Communist Party and government. Zhonghai and Nanhai, along with Beihai to the north, were part of the gardens of the Forbidden City, the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
