Kamyshin (English spelling)

A city in the Volgograd Oblast in southwestern Russia. It is a river port city located on the west bank of the Volgograd artificial lake, which was built in the lower Volga River, about 170 km north-northeast of the oblast capital Volgograd. Its origins date back to the late 17th century, when a fortress was built to protect the Volga River waterway. Peter the Great carried out a large-scale construction project to link the Kamyshinka River, which flows through the city and flows into the Volga River, with a tributary of the Don River system, to build a canal connecting the two river systems, but it ended in failure. In 1895, it was connected to Tambov by rail, and became a freight transfer point from water to land. In addition to a cotton textile complex, there are factories that produce tractor parts, oils and fats, dyes, canned vegetables, etc. Population: 119,924 (2010).

ロシア南西部，ボルゴグラード州の都市。州都ボルゴグラードの北北東約 170km，ボルガ川下流部につくられたボルゴグラード人造湖の西岸に位置する河港都市。 17世紀後半ボルガ川の水路を守るための要塞がつくられたことに始る。ピョートル1世は市を流れてボルガ川に注ぐカムイシンカ川とドン川水系の支流を結び，両水系を連絡する運河をつくろうと大工事を行なったが，失敗に終った。 1895年タンボフと鉄道で結ばれ，水路から陸路への貨物積替え点となった。綿織物コンビナートのほか，トラクタ部品，油脂，染料，野菜缶詰などの工場がある。人口 11万9924（2010）。
