In the calc-alkaline series, the residual liquid rapidly increases in _SiO2 and decreases in FeO as a result of crystallization differentiation. This series occurs in some orogenic belts, and most of the andesites and dacites in orogenic belts on island arcs and continental margins belong to this series. However, these rocks may often begin from andesitic parent magmas. Rocks in the calc-alkaline series evolve from calc-alkaline basalt → andesite → dacite → rhyolite. The phenocryst minerals that crystallize are Mg-olivine → orthopyroxene and augite → amphibole → biotite. A reaction relationship is seen between olivine and orthopyroxene. Amphibole and biotite do not crystallize in the groundmass, but silica minerals appear [Suzuki: 1994]. ⇒ Calc-alkaline rocks

カルク・アルカリ質系列では結晶分化作用の結果，残液のSiO₂が急速に増加し，FeOが減少する．造山帯の一部に産出し，弧状列島や大陸縁の造山帯の安山岩，石英安山岩の大部分がこの系列に含まれる．しかしこれらの岩石は安山岩質な本源マグマから始まることが多いかも知れない．カルク・アルカリ質系列の岩石はカルク・アルカリ質玄武岩→安山岩→石英安山岩→流紋岩と進化する．斑晶鉱物はMg-橄欖石→斜方輝石およびオージャイト→角閃石→黒雲母が晶出する．橄欖石と斜方輝石の間には反応関係が見られる．石基には角閃石や黒雲母は晶出せず，シリカ鉱物が出現する［鈴木 : 1994］．⇒カルク・アルカリ岩
