Japanese: 嵐蘭 - らんらん

1647-93 (4th year of Shoho - 6th year of Genroku)
A haiku poet of the early Edo period. His surname was Matsukura, given name Morinori, and commonly known as Matagoro, Bun'emon, and Jinbei. He first served Lord Itakura, but retired in 1691 and lived in Asakusa, Edo. A haiku poet of the Sho school since the Enpo period (1673-81), he was included in various books after "Toseimondei Dokugin Nijukasen" and published "Keshiawase" in 1692, but died on August 27 the following year. Basho wrote "Toranranshi" to praise him as a man of integrity and honesty, and mourned him. "Hatsuichi ya, wakana boats rowing in the snow" ("Sarumino"). [Ishikawa Hachiro]

江戸前期の俳人。姓は松倉，名は盛教，通称は又五郎，また文右衛門，甚兵衛。初め板倉侯に仕えたが，1691年致仕，江戸浅草に住んだ。延宝期(1673‐81)以来の蕉門俳人で，《桃青門弟独吟廿歌仙》以後諸書に入集，92年《罌粟合（けしあわせ）》を刊行したが，翌年8月27日没。芭蕉は〈悼嵐蘭詞〉を書いて剛直清廉の士であったことを称し，これを悼んだ。〈はつ市や雪に漕来る若菜船〉(《猿蓑》)。【石川八朗】
