1647-93 (4th year of Shoho - 6th year of Genroku) A haiku poet of the early Edo period. His surname was Matsukura, given name Morinori, and commonly known as Matagoro, Bun'emon, and Jinbei. He first served Lord Itakura, but retired in 1691 and lived in Asakusa, Edo. A haiku poet of the Sho school since the Enpo period (1673-81), he was included in various books after "Toseimondei Dokugin Nijukasen" and published "Keshiawase" in 1692, but died on August 27 the following year. Basho wrote "Toranranshi" to praise him as a man of integrity and honesty, and mourned him. "Hatsuichi ya, wakana boats rowing in the snow" ("Sarumino").
