Taxation under the Ritsuryo system. Chuo (Shocho in the Taiho Code) was a male between 17 and 20 years old. The kokugunji procured goods needed by the central government by using Chuo as laborers and presented them as tribute, and this was established in 717. If Chuo were insufficient, they were supplemented by miscellaneous labor from Shocho (males between 21 and 60 years old). 令制下の租税。中男（大宝令では少丁）は17歳から20歳の男子。中央官庁が必要とする物品を，国郡司が中男を使役し調達して貢進したもので，717年設定。中男が不足の場合は正丁（21歳から60歳の男子）の雑徭(ぞうよう)で補った。物品の内容は庸調物に近い。→租庸調
