Taxation under the Ritsuryo system. Chuo (Shocho in the Taiho Code) was a male between 17 and 20 years old. The kokugunji procured goods needed by the central government by using Chuo as laborers and presented them as tribute, and this was established in 717. If Chuo were insufficient, they were supplemented by miscellaneous labor from Shocho (males between 21 and 60 years old). The type of goods was similar to that of Yocho. → Tax Yocho Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
