The capital of Saraburi Province in central Thailand. It is located about 100 km north-northeast of Bangkok, on the Pasak River, a tributary of the Chao Phraya River. It is one of the commercial centers of the rice-growing region, and corn and cattle are also traded. Its main industries are textiles, metal processing, food manufacturing, clothing, and timber processing. A railway line runs through the city, stretching northeast from Bangkok, and a road to the north branches off here. Population: 67,763 (2000).
