1859‐92 French anarchist. His real name was François Claudius Koenigstein. In 1892, he blew up the homes of the presiding judge and the prosecutor in an act of revenge against other anarchists who had been executed. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, but was later sentenced to death after it was revealed that he had committed robberies and murders to escape poverty. This incident occurred in the early 1890s, a time when the French anarchist movement was using terrorism as a means of action, and was connected to a series of incidents including the assassination of President Carnot.
