Entry into the Imperial Court - Judai

The entry of an empress into the Imperial Palace. Especially since the mid-Heian period, when the status of Nyogo (consorts) rose and there were many cases of empresses being promoted above Nyogo, the entry of Nyogo into the Imperial Palace became a de facto imperial wedding ceremony, and a grand ceremony was held. In the Imperial Family Law enacted in 1910 (Meiji 43), the ceremony in which the person who will become the empress, i.e. the Empress, enters the Imperial Palace during the imperial wedding ceremony was called the Empress's Entry into the Imperial Palace, referring to the Nyogo's Entry into the Imperial Palace ceremony since the Heian period.

后妃が内裏(だいり)に参入すること。ことに平安時代中ごろから女御(にょうご)の地位が高まり、皇后は、女御より昇る例が多くなってからは、女御の入内は事実上天皇の結婚の儀礼となり、盛大な儀式が行われた。1910年（明治43）制定された皇室親族令で、天皇大婚(たいこん)の儀式中、皇后となるべき者すなわち后氏(こうし)の皇居に参入する儀式を后氏入内の儀というのは、平安時代以来の女御入内の儀を参照して定められたものである。
