Vogt, K.

…a derogatory term for a certain type of materialism that was popular in the German cultural sphere in the second half of the 19th century. It refers to the positions of Karl Vogt (1817-95), J. Maurescott, L. Büchner, and others. This position is a kind of scientistic materialism, and in a broad sense belongs to mechanistic materialism, but unlike 18th century French materialism, which was based solely on physical knowledge, this position is characterized by being based on physiological knowledge and combining it with Darwinian evolutionary theory.
