A type of multiplex communication, abbreviated as FDM. This method divides one transmission path into multiple frequency bands and assigns a different communication path to each band. In the case of telephones, the frequency spectrum of voice is distributed between approximately 0 and 4 kHz. When using frequency division multiplexing, each communication path is usually converted and allocated to a specified frequency band using single sideband modulation. Frequency division multiplexing transmits multiple signals allocated in this way using a single transmission path. On the receiving side, a bandpass filter is used to extract only the necessary frequency bands in order to separate them again into multiple communication paths, and the required voice signal is obtained by demodulating it.
