Ereck

…An ancient city in the southernmost part of Mesopotamia, one of the central cities of Sumer. Its name comes from the Sumerian word unug, and in the Old Testament it is called Erek, and its modern name is Warka. The first large-scale excavations were carried out by a German team led by J. Jordan just before World War I.
