...However, about 10% of people with ulcers do not complain of any symptoms at all, and especially when gastric ulcers recur, they are often asymptomatic. Diagnosis can be made by gastric X-ray examination or gastrointestinal endoscopy. In a gastric X-ray examination, the patient drinks barium sulfate, which is opaque to X-rays (roentgen rays), and an X-ray is used to diagnose a gastric ulcer by observing defects in the stomach wall, the characteristics of the surrounding area, and stomach movement.
