A former town in Katori County in northern Chiba Prefecture. It spans the lowlands on the south bank of the Tone River and the Shimousa Plateau. Namegawa, in the center of the town, flourished as a river port on the Tone River in the early modern period, but declined after the Narita Line opened. Rice, sweet potatoes, carrots, burdock, tomatoes, etc. are produced here. Komikado Shrine and Ryushoin Namegawa Kannon are located here. 千葉県北部,香取郡の旧町。利根川南岸の低地と下総(しもうさ)台地にまたがる。中心の滑川(なめがわ)は近世の利根川水運の河港として栄えたが,成田線開通後衰微。米,サツマイモ,ニンジン,ゴボウ,トマトなどを産する。小御門(こみかど)神社,竜正院滑河観音がある。2006年3月香取郡大栄町と成田市へ編入。32.00km2。8043人(2003)。
