There she finds the bodies of the six previous wives who were killed one by one by Barbe‐Bleue. After returning home, Barbe‐Bleue finds out that his new wife has broken the taboo and tries to kill her, but is killed instead thanks to her quick thinking and the efforts of his two brothers. …

In 1905, Bartók entered the Rubinstein Piano Composition Competition in Paris with his own piano Rhapsody, but was ultimately rejected. However, the influence of his experience in France, especially Debussy's impressionism, was significant, and his works in the 1910s, such as the opera The Bluebeard's Castle (1911), the ballet The Wooden Prince (1916), The Wonder Mandarin (1919), and the piano piece Suite (1916), aimed to synthesize Hungarian folk music and European art music, especially impressionistic tendencies. In the midst of attacks by far-right forces for his support of Hungary's first short-lived socialist revolutionary government in 1919, Bartók's style, influenced by Schoenberg, Stravinsky, and others, became extremely radical and avant-garde.
