A general term for textiles made by combining various weaves and weaving complex patterns using colored threads. Some patterns have more than 40 warp and weft threads, and many of them use colored threads to create beautiful patterns on the surface of the fabric, and are also known as jacquard textiles. There are many types, such as crested habutae, crested meshi, crested crepe, donsu, shuchin, brocade, damask, and necktie fabric. In the past, in Japan, they were woven on a sorahikihata (introduced from China, declined during the Meiji period), and some were highly artistic, but in the Meiji period, jacquard machines were introduced from France to Nishijin, Kyoto, and expensive crested textiles became available to the common people.
