Chemical nomenclature

...Therefore, it is natural that chemists should think of unified and systematic names to avoid this confusion. The first important work of this kind was the "Methode de nomenclature chimique" proposed by the Frenchman Louis Bernard Guyton de Morveau (1737-1816) and published in 1787 by him and others, AL Lavoisier, Antoine François de Fourcroy (1755-1809), CL Berton, and others. This work eliminated all the completely irrational naming methods that had existed up until that point, and established the basis for a rational and systematic naming system, becoming the starting point of the naming system currently in use.
