Jimukade (Worm-like Centipede)
A general term for arthropods belonging to the order Geophilomorpha in the class Chilopoda (Centipedes). Body length is 1-6 cm. They have a long, slender earthworm-like body shape with many legs and usually live underground. Their brown or scarlet head has a pair of short antennae but no eyes. Their body consists of 31 to about 177 body segments, each with a pair of short walking legs. Their bodies are yellow and can move in a serpentine pattern that can stretch and contract freely, allowing them to move backward as well as forward. They feed on springtails, earthworms, spiders, etc. They lay eggs in early summer, and the female carries and protects dozens of eggs.
