'Abd al-'Aziz b. Sa'ūd

1880‐1953
Founder and first king of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Also known as Ibn Sa'ūd. After being driven out of Nejd together with his father 'Abd al-Raḥmān, who was defeated by the Rashids in 1889, he fled to Kuwait. In 1902, he succeeded in recapturing Riyadh with a small number of troops and restored the kingdom of the Wahhabi House of Saud. In 1922, he defeated his arch rival the Rashids, and in 1924, he drove Hussein of the Hashemites out of Hijaz, calling himself "King of Hijaz, Sultan of Nejd and its territories."

サウジアラビア王国の建設者，初代国王。イブン･サウードIbn Sa‘ūdともよばれる。1889年ラシード家に敗れた父アブド･アッラフマーン‘Abd al‐Raḥmānと共にナジュドを追われた後，クウェートに亡命。1902年少数の手兵でリヤード奪還に成功，ワッハーブ派のサウード家の王国を再興した。22年宿敵ラシード家を倒し，さらに24年ハーシム家のフサインをヒジャーズから追って〈ヒジャーズの王，ナジュドおよびその属領のスルタン〉と称した。
