Kazak
German author. He started out as a lyric poet, but was banned from writing during the Nazi era. After the war, he published the novel The City Behind the Stream, which, in a surrealistic style, satirized modern society, which was mechanized and focused solely on functionality. He also had a successful career as an editor and as president of the Academy of Letters.
