After World War II, Japan was occupied by the Allied forces and implemented "postwar reforms" under the guidance of GHQ. The GHQ documents are comprehensive original materials related to the occupation administration carried out by GHQ, and are estimated to be approximately 30 million pages long. These documents were held at the National Archives of Japan's Washington DC Annex (located in Maryland), but over the course of 13 years since 1978 (Showa 53), the National Diet Library has put them on microfilm, brought them back to Japan, and made them available for viewing in the Constitutional Documents Room on microfiche (some of which are hard copies).

日本は第2次世界大戦後，連合国軍によって軍事占領を受け，GHQの指導の下に〈戦後改革〉を実施した。GHQ文書は，GHQが行った占領行政関係の包括的原資料であり，およそ3000万ページと推定される。この文書はワシントンの国立公文書館別館WNRC(在メリーランド)に所蔵されていたが，1978年(昭和53)から13年の歳月をかけて国立国会図書館がマイクロフィルムに収めて持ち帰り，マイクロフィッシュ(一部はハードコピー)にして憲政資料室で閲覧に供している。
