Japanese: 厚岸[町] - あっけし

A town in Akkeshi County, eastern Hokkaido. Most of the town is plateau, facing Akkeshi Bay and Lake Akkeshi, and the Nemuro Main Line runs through it. Fishing is thriving, with salmon and trout being caught, and dairy farming is also carried out. The seabird breeding grounds on Daikoku Island are a natural monument. Kokutaiji Temple is located here. In June 1993, Lake Akkeshi and Bekanbeushi Marsh were registered as Ramsar Convention wetlands. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 739.26 ^km2 . Population: 10,630 (2010).

北海道東部，厚岸郡の町。大部分が台地で厚岸湾，厚岸湖に臨み，根室本線が通じる。漁業が盛んで，サケ，マスを漁獲するほか，酪農も行う。大黒(だいこく)島海鳥繁殖地は天然記念物。国泰寺がある。1993年６月厚岸湖，別寒辺牛湿原がラムサール条約登録湿地となる。東日本大震災で，町内において被害が発生。739.26km²。１万630人（2010）。
