A warrior who appears in the second story of volume six of the Konjaku Monogatarishu and volume nine of the Kokin Chomonshu. His childhood name was also Kintaro. He was one of the four heavenly kings of Minamoto no Yorimitsu, and is said to have been a real person. In later Otogi-zoshi and legends, he is described as the son of a mountain witch. He was a prodigy who grew up on Mt. Ashigara in Sagami Province, and was discovered by Yorimitsu, who joined him in the conquest of Shuten-doji of Mt. Oe. His appearance as a child is the subject of May dolls. In Kabuki, he is called Kaidomaru and Kintoki. 「今昔物語集」巻六第二話、「古今著聞集」巻九などに登場する武士。酒田とも、また、公時とも書く。幼名金太郎。源頼光の四天王の一人で、実在の人物ともいう。後世の御伽草子や伝承では山姥の子となっている。相模国足柄山で育った怪童で頼光に見出され大江山の酒呑童子の征伐などに加わったという。童児姿は五月人形の題材になる。歌舞伎では怪童丸。きんとき。
