phaeozem

…soils that occur in the natural grasslands (prairies) of the eastern Great Plains of North America. They are also called brunizems or phaeozems and are included in the Eudorean suborder in the American soil classification system. They are considered a zonal soil type intermediate between the steppe chernozems and the humid temperate brown forest soils or residu soils.
