Basidiomycetes, Agaricales, Agaricales. It grows sporadically from summer to autumn on sunny ground in grasslands and forests. The cap is 8-15cm in diameter, sometimes reaching up to 25cm. It starts out oval, but gradually opens up to become almost flat. The surface is smooth and reddish brown or dark brown. The stalk is 1.5-2cm thick and 15-35cm tall, sometimes reaching 50cm. It is named after the shape of the cap when fully opened, which resembles a Chinese umbrella. The spore pattern is white. It is edible. It is also known as Nigiritake. It is found in Hokkaido and Honshu, and is distributed worldwide.

担子菌類マツタケ目ハラタケ科。夏から秋にかけて,草原や林間の日当りのよい地面にまばらに発生する。傘は径8~15cm,ときに 25cmぐらいになる。初めは卵形であるが,だんだん開いてほとんど平らになる。表面はなめらかで赤褐色ないしこげ茶色。柄は太さ 1.5~2cmで,高さは 15~35cm,ときには 50cmに及ぶ。傘の開ききった形が唐傘に似ていることからこの名がつけられている。胞子紋は白。食べられる。ニギリタケの別名がある。北海道,本州に産し,汎世界的に分布する。
