...In 1909, at the request of Yokota Einosuke (Yokota Shokai), he began shooting "moving pictures" with director Makino Shozo, starting with "Goban Tadanobu, Genji Iso" (The Foundation of Genji). Soon after Nikkatsu was founded (1912), he quickly became a big star at Nikkatsu's Kyoto Old Theater. After falling out with Makino Shozo, he teamed up with director Ikeda Tomiyasu, who was his brother-in-law (his sister's husband), and released one film after another. In 1925, his masterpiece "Araki Mataemon" (Matsunosuke's "1000th film") became the biggest hit since the founding of Nikkatsu. In 1926, he died of heart disease at the age of 52. ...
