Wild Grape - Ampelopsis brevipedunculata var. maximowiczii

Wild Grape - Ampelopsis brevipedunculata var. maximowiczii
A perennial plant of the Vitaceae family. A vine commonly found in the mountains and fields, it is widely distributed in the temperate and subtropical zones of East Asia. The stems are thick and woody at the base, and grow to several meters. The leaves are alternate, heart-shaped and ovate with 3 to 5 lobes, 5 to 10 cm in diameter, light green on the underside, and hairy on the veins. Tendrils grow opposite the leaves, which divide into two. In July and August, they form cymes opposite the leaves, and produce many small green flowers. The fruits are spherical berries 6 to 8 mm in diameter, and are a mixture of white, purple, and blue. The fruits often become galled due to infestation by the larvae of the grape gall midge and grape borer.
