Born: 1863? Paris
[Died] October 6, 1927. Morlay. French painter. Studied at the Académie Julian. In 1888 he met Gauguin in Burgundy and was deeply influenced by him. In 1889 he formed the Nabis with Denis, Bonnard, and Vuillard. After visiting the religious art school at the Benedictine monastery in Bouron, Germany, he was strongly influenced by religious art. He was also known as a theorist. His major works include "The Talisman" (1888).
