A general term for an order in the class Insecta. Also known as Diura or Dipterida. A soil animal measuring 3 to 30 mm. Approximately 15 species are known in Japan and approximately 800 species are known worldwide, but it is believed that there are many unknown species. The body is white or pale in color and wingless. It lacks both compound and simple eyes. It has a pair of thread-like or pincer-like protrusions at the end of the abdomen. It is omnivorous, but mainly eats plant remains and fungi.
