Betty - Betty (English spelling) Mongo Beti

Japanese: ベティ - べてぃ(英語表記)Mongo Beti
Betty - Betty (English spelling) Mongo Beti

Cameroonian novelist. He studied at a Catholic missionary school, but was expelled for rejecting his faith while he was still there, and then transferred to a public high school. He later studied in France, studying at the University of Aix-en-Provence and the University of Paris. Unable to return to his homeland due to his anti-government activism, he taught at a French lycée for a while, but later returned to the United States and opened a bookstore. In his early novels, such as "The Cruel Town" (1954), "Poor Christ of Bomba" (1956), "The Mission is Finished" (1957), and "The King of Miracles" (1958), he comically satirized the limitations and contradictions of Christian evangelism in Africa, where there are different tribal customs. Other works he produced include a collection of anti-colonial essays, the novels Perpetu and the Unfortunate Habit (1974), Remembering Rubens (1974), and The Comical Defeat of a Clown (1979), as well as the series of novels in the 1980s The Two Mothers of Guillaume Ismaël Dzéwadama (1983) and The Revenge of Guillaume Ismaël Dzéwadama (1984). In 1978 he also founded the bimonthly magazine Blacks and Africans, which provided a forum for writers to publish their works until 1991.
