Aokata-shi - Aokata-ji

Japanese: 青方氏 - あおかたうじ
Aokata-shi - Aokata-ji

The Aokata clan is a local Fujiwara clan whose main residence is in Aokata (currently Aokata-go, Shinkamigoto-cho, Minamimatsuura-gun, Nagasaki Prefecture) on Urabe Island (currently Nakadori Island) in Goto, Hizen Province. The Aokata clan is the descendant of a development lord who lived in this area since the Heian period, and the history of the Aokata clan can be learned in detail from the 465 Aokata documents from the Kamakura period to the Sengoku period, which are held in the Nagasaki Prefectural Nagasaki Library, and two volumes of the Aokata Family Genealogy compiled at the end of the Edo period. The Kamakura Shogunate confirmed the position of land steward in this area, and the Aokata clan became Kamakura Gokenin (vassals of the Kamakura clan), and during the Nanboku-cho period, they became members of the Matsuura clan, and often participated in local uprisings and general alliances. During the Edo period, he became a vassal of the early modern daimyo Goto clan (Fukue domain), and was appointed as one of its chief retainers at the end of the Edo period.
